Importing Word and Markdown
If your work lives in Word documents, Markdown, or plain text, Verkilo can import it directly.
Supported files#
- Word (
.docx) — chapters split at Heading 1, a Title-styled page names the book, bold and italic and scene breaks survive, and embedded images come along into your project’s Gallery. Formats Verkilo can’t display are skipped and reported up front. - Markdown (
.md) — headings become structure; emphasis carries through. - Plain text (
.txt) — imported as clean prose you can then divide into sections.
Splitting into sections#
After importing a long document, break it into sections at your scene or chapter boundaries so you can reorder and tag them. A well-sectioned manuscript is what makes the corkboard and outliner useful.
Cleaning up#
Imported formatting is normalized to Verkilo’s clean style, so your exports stay consistent no matter where the text originally came from.
