Verkilo on multiple computers
Writing on a desktop and a laptop? Three separate things travel three separate ways — knowing which is which saves a lot of grief.
Your license#
One purchase covers all your personal computers. Install Verkilo on each and activate with the same key. If you retire a machine, About Verkilo → Deactivate this device frees its seat for the replacement.
Your library#
Templates, label groups, presets, keywords, your dictionary, and your preferences (theme, editor font and width, and more) can follow you automatically:
- On each computer, open Settings → Sync.
- Point it at the same folder in something your machines already share — iCloud, Dropbox, Syncthing, even a USB stick.
- Verkilo keeps your library there. Open the other computer and your templates are waiting.
Changes sync in the background whenever you make them. If two machines change the same template while one is offline, the later change wins — so treat this as a convenience, not a backup.
Your manuscripts#
Manuscripts deliberately do not sync. A live project file in a cloud folder is the classic way to corrupt one, and no writing app can honestly promise otherwise.
The safe pattern:
- Keep the project file on the computer you’re writing on.
- Let your cloud drive carry the daily backup folder instead — Verkilo writes a dated backup to your Documents folder every day you write.
- Moving to the other machine for a while? Copy the project file over (or open the newest backup) and carry on. Verkilo warns you if the same project is already open elsewhere.
