    Installing Verkilo

Verkilo is a desktop app you install and run locally — there’s nothing to configure in the cloud and no account required to start writing. Your purchase and license unlock the same download on every platform.

    Download#

Grab the installer for your operating system from your account page or the verkilo.com download link:

    • macOS — Apple Silicon and Intel, delivered as a signed .dmg.
    • Windows — Windows 10 and 11, delivered as an .exe installer.
    • Linux — a .deb package and a portable .AppImage.

One purchase covers all three platforms, so you can install Verkilo on every desktop in your household.

    Install#

    macOS#

    1. Double-click the downloaded .dmg to open it.
    2. Drag the Verkilo icon onto the Applications shortcut in the same window.
    3. Eject the disk image and open Verkilo from Applications or Launchpad.
    4. The first launch shows a confirmation that the app is from an identified developer. Choose Open.

    Windows#

    1. Double-click the downloaded .exe.
    2. Follow the installer prompts. Verkilo installs for the current user, so no administrator password is needed.
    3. Launch Verkilo from the Start menu.

    Linux#

    For the .deb package:

    1. Install it with your package manager — sudo apt install ./verkilo_*.deb, or double-click the file if your desktop opens it in a software installer.
    2. Launch Verkilo from your applications menu.

    For the portable .AppImage:

    1. Mark the file executable: chmod +x Verkilo-*.AppImage
    2. Run it directly: ./Verkilo-*.AppImage

Nothing else is installed, and you can move the file anywhere you like.

    First launch and your trial#

    1. Open Verkilo. The trial starts on its own — there’s no sign-up, no credit card, and no account to create.
    2. Write for up to 30 days with every feature unlocked, exports included.
    3. When you’re ready to buy, see Purchase and licensing for how to activate your key.

    System requirements#

Verkilo is lightweight. Any machine from the last several years running a current version of macOS, Windows, or a mainstream Linux distribution will run it comfortably. Your projects live on your own disk, so the only storage you need is room for your manuscripts.
